Hanged for stealing a horse

Thomas Turner, born in Thriplow, was hanged at Tyburn in 1713 for stealing a horse from Mr Ambrose Benning. This information was published in volume 22.2 (2014) of the Thriplow Journal.

He was hanged along with four other men and two women on 25th September. In the days prior to the hanging and on the day itself the condemned were helped to pray and given religious instruction to help them repent and face a Christian death. “The Behaviour, Confessions, and Last Speeches of the Malefactors that were Executed at Tyburn, on Friday the 25th of September, 1713” are all described here. You can see the original transcript of Thomas’ confession here.
