On the evening of Thursday June 2nd, members of the Gardening Club gathered for a 60th Anniversary Soirée in the garden of The Dove House in Fowlmere.
As the sun shone, guests sat round tables under the trees enjoying a glass of wine and tasty finger food selected from an extensive buffet laid out in the marquee. There was an abundant plant stall and some attractive prizes to be won in the raffle. Puzzlement and laughter ensued as a challenging picture quiz took members looking for clues round the garden. There was, of course, a prize giving at the end. It was a good night for Derek Pinner who won both the competition for the best single rose and the quiz!
During the evening we welcomed our guest speaker, Erica Carrick Utsi, who worked in Ukraine in 2017, as a ground penetrating radar specialist with the “Protecting Memories Project.” Through one of Erica’s contacts in the country, Anya Voitenko, a photo journalist, we learn about “Hospitallers” a Ukrainian voluntary organization of paramedics saving lives on the front line right now. It was the Club’s pleasure to donate £200 to the charity from the proceeds of the event.
