Our annual tour took us to Northumbria this year. 28 members enjoyed 4 days of visiting quite a variety of gardens. On the way up we stopped at Newby Hall near Ripon, where some of us took a barge trip along the river Ure and a ride on a miniature railway which went around the estate. We took in Alnwick gardens with its famous cascading fountain and magnificent rose garden. The group visited Howick Hall, famous for its Earl Grey tea, and drove across the causeway to Lindisfarne. An interesting stop was at Belsay Hall with its medieval castle and unique quarry gardens with its rocky ravines. On our way home we stopped in Harrogate to visit RHS Harlow Carr, with its diverse range of gardens and so full of colour.
We are looking forward to next year’s tour to Shropshire from June 25th– 28th.
