On a warm June evening, 50 of our members enjoyed a delightful summer soiree in the beautiful garden belonging to Annie Eccles in Thriplow. With glasses of wine in hand, guests settled at tables arranged on the lawn surrounded by colour borders of flowers, tall trees and large marquee housing a delicious finger buffet. While guests helped themselves to nibbles, a thoughtful air descended as members of each table tackled fun quizzes about underground stations, songs of the 70’s and well-known faces. The answers were announced with much laughter and cries of “I knew that really!”
There was plenty of time to amble round Annie’s extensive grounds and admire the lavender beds, roses, vegetable garden, lawns and neatly clipped yew hedges. Some ventured a game of croquet or purchased a useful cutting from the extensive plant stall. The competition for a vase of spring flowers was won by Sue Pinner. The raffle had some lovely prizes and the draw rounded off events, but of course not without sincere thanks to Annie for providing us with such a wonderful venue.
