October 2022- Salads all year round

Well, you missed a treat if you did not come to Mike Day’s talk on this agricultural/horticultural local expert mesmerised his audience with many, many pictures of a myriad of salad ingredients – all available from your friendly local supermarket!  Sadly, I could not keep up with the torrent of information so decided to enlist your help, dear reader.  Continue reading and then next time you are in front of the packets of salad leaves you can impress your companion with your knowledge!

So here goes – the Japanese love mizuna-lettuce), Levantine Table tabbouleh is an Arab salad, Pak Choi is also known as Chinese cabbage, tatsoi can also be called Spinach mustard and is very popular in North American cuisine. Did you know that humans first ate quinoa 3,000–4,000 years ago in the Lake Titicaca basin of Peru and Bolivia?

So, there we are – back to our Gardening Club talks – don’t miss our next talk on Vegetables on 3rd November and do make a note of our Christmas meeting on 1st December when we hear popular speaker Andrew Sankey talk about “Colour in the garden” followed by our infamous Christmas buffet.
