New Bridleway Links Heathfield to Thriplow

by Webmaster 21/05/10 - 21:05

You may have heard the noise of diggers and trucks in the fields between Thriplow and Heathfield recently. This is the start of works to construct a new Bridleway linking the two communities by the shortest route. The Parish Council and KWS are each part-funding Russell Smith Farms to lay a concrete path (at least 2m wide but typically 2.7m wide) for use by pedestrians and cyclists, it will also be useful for kiddies scooters and prams. Alongside this path will be at least 2m of grass verge for use by horse riders. The money comes from Section 106 funds received from the developers of Heathfield some years ago.

Heydon Grange Windfarm Proposal

by Webmaster 13/05/10 - 14:53

Towards the end of March, Thriplow Parish Council, along with the Parish Councils of Heydon, Chishill, Chrishall, Duxford, Fowlmere and Melbourn, received a Request for a Scoping Opinion from South Cambridgeshire District Council relating to a proposed Wind Farm at Heydon Grange. This is NOT a formal Planning Application. Until and unless the proposal reaches the Planning Application stage, the Parish Councils and the Councillors themselves are not allowed to take a view for or against this proposal. If they do, their views in the actual consultation on the application will be ignored as being prejudiced. We can and should however, bring this proposal to your attention.

Thriplow now on Google StreetView

by Webmaster 11/03/10 - 00:14

Thriplow (along with most of the UK) is now showing on Google StreetView. To view the new imagery, go to Google Maps (link is zoomed on Thriplow) and then drag the orange man on the left and hover him over the village. Once you've chosen where to view, just let go of the mouse button and the photos will appear.

I know there have been some protests regarding privacy issues concerning StreetView, so if you object to your property being available to everyone on the entire planet to see then there is a link in the bottom left of the screen where you can request it to be removed. You must be viewing your property before you click the link in order for the report to accurate.

Village Launches New Website

by Webmaster 13/11/09 - 16:26

Welcome to a new look and we hope more functional website for the village of Thriplow!

If you are a new user, we welcome you too, but whether you are a beginner or regular visitor, you'll find a lot of useful stuff about our village on these pages.

Following the Daffodil Weekend of 2009, the Organising Committee and Thriplow Parish Council agreed to transfer ownership of the website to the council. The purpose of this transfer is to enable all the activities and important information about our lovely village to be housed in this single website. You will find many obvious links to the Daffodil Weekend pages and their structure remains the same, so they will be familiar to you and easy to use.

In addition, we have whole new sections including:

  • the business of the Parish Council
  • items about other relevant local government bodies and services
  • a news section and a village diary
  • information about our very active community
  • links to our local organisations, clubs and societies
  • a section which can be used by local businesses (hopefully this will grow as we go on)
  • a classified advertisement section
  • how to get yourself an email address with your name followed by @thriplow.org.uk

Some of these are already in place and some will follow shortly. We also hope to develop a capability where we can conduct e-trading over this website, but this will come later.

We are hoping to run this website free of charge, although we may ask businesses to contribute a small donation for using it, so that we can keep our software up to date. If you are interested in having a section for your business or organisation, please let us know by mailing us at [email].

More news later but for now, please come in and have a look around!
